JULY 20th 2003 - BERE REGIS
SOUL : This type of track was quite suited to
Soul, except for the lack of power out-put on the
straights. Still we haven't overcome the 19mm
carb issue, and it's frustrating when he's got his
throttle wide open yet loses more bike lengths
through each fast section. Credit where credit is
due, he did push hard in Race 1, and unlike
Matchams his body positioning was less lazy and a
big improvement, and although he couldn't quite
catch up to the front two (DB Magnums), he never
really let them get away. In Race 2 he got a
terrible start, and then got baulked at the first
corner putting him second from last. He really tried
and made up quite a few places in the first lap,
but then could only maintain a steady pace for the
rest of the race. To be critical, he seemed to make
up time in some areas, only to lose the time in
some of the now rutted corners. As with Race 3, It
seemed to take him too many laps of using the
same lines only to lose time bouncing through the
acceleration mounds. He did eventually change the
lines, but not soon enough. We've discussed this
with him, giving him different scenarios of what to
look for and what might work better. Although, it's
really down to Souls judgement, as after all, it's
him riding out there with those little wheels - not
us from they trackside!
