AUGUST 17th 2003 - HENSTRIDGE

SOUL : Putting the misfortunes of Martinstown behind him, he was full of confidence for the day at Henstridge. The plan for the practice was to get a feel on lap one and push it on lap two to find corner speed for the race. He did just that, and was happy that he had an idea where he could push harder in the race.

With exception to his start, Race 1 went quite well, he went past about five people into turn one only to get caught up in turn two. If he held his quicker line he would have taken out another little rider, so he had to stay wide but he couldn't cut back across because again he would taken the other rider out. It cost him quite a bit of time but he managed to battle for a few more places by the end of the race. Race 2 saw another bad start but I watched to see what the problem is. He holds the throttle just on the biting point and as the gate drops he nails it. His timing was perfect but it seems that when he gets on the power the bike just doesn't have the punch. He battled really well and finished one place up on Race 1.

For his final race we tried something different. Instead of holding his throttle on biting point with the 5-second board, he held it past the point with two fingers on the front brake lever, and again he did it really well but the bike just didn't fire off the gate. The overall lack of power has become a big headache; if only we could get hold of the right manifold for the 19mm carb. He rode extremely well, and had the best form that we've seen for a few weeks, but it has now become obvious that realistically he's out growing his bike, and it's certainly not quick enough. It's funny, because in March 2002 it was set as low as possible and still he could only just touch the floor. He's really come on this year, and he's doing us proud….. So kept it up Soul!!
