MARCH 16th 2003 -WINTERBOURNE STICKLAND
SOUL : Soul was hot off the gate in Race 1 and
managed to hold 4th from start to finish, ensuring
that he was 1st 50cc over the line again. He was
frustrated with his starts in Race 2 and 3, but still
managed bring it home with two solid 6th placing,
Ending the day overall as 1st 50cc. Well done
mate, we're really proud of you.
We're now happy that he has got used riding
again, and with his new brake 'pedal', and crisper
engine he seems to have settled well. The next
stage for his bike, will be to try some stiffer
springs in his clutch, hopefully giving him slightly
higher revs as the power kicks in. Thanks to
IN-CHAINS for sorting those out, and we'll let you
know how we get on.
D : Hurray!! I didn't crash. That was perhaps my
most important mission of the day, but my other
priorities were to just go out there and ride not
'race'. Just settle down, and get used to my bike,
and to hopefully sort out my 2nd gear 3rd gear
issue through certain corners. The practice session
went well, and I picked up some ideas of where I
could run some good corner speed through double
apexes. Race 1 went well, and I was having my
own little battles, but after the leader came flying
past, I just chilled and paid attention as the next
lot were not far behind. To be fair, I came off the
race line a couple of times to let them get on with,
as they were having their own little ding dong, and
quite frankly I wanted to finish the race and not
be taken out by one of them loons. In Race 2 & 3,
as my confidence grew, I felt I was getting quicker
by the lap. The rut's got bigger and the track got
dustier as the day went on, and the flying roost
boulders weren't particularly good, but I finished all
of my races in one piece, and that's what
mattered. I finished with a 33rd, 32nd, & 31st. I
only had a real issue with one or two corners
where it felt that the front was trying to tuck, but
I think I over came it with more rear and less front
brake into these corners. Thanks to Martin Mabey
for keeping an eye on my inabilities out there, and
thanks to Alan Parker who found time to slot in
behind me to observe my progress - before
blasting past to lap me of course. Also, a Million
Thank You's to all of our sponsors for helping us
get through another weekend.
