MAY 13TH 2003 - TRIGON
SOUL : As a little change this week, Soul wanted
to have a go at adding his own words, with his
very own little fingers. Here he is - It was very
hard Sunday and there was a tricky off camber
downhill corner and I crashed 3 times in the day.
One of those was when I was trying to clear the
step-up, but my front wheel dug into the sand and
flipped me off. And I got flipped over the
handlebars on my last lap. I tried as hard as I
could and I had fun. Thanks to everyone that
cheers for me, and to my sponsors.

Fair play Soul! I don't really have anything to add
to that, other than to confirm that he really was
pushing as hard as he could, finishing, 11th, 12th
& 10th equating to 2nd,2nd, & 1st 50cc over the
line.
D: STILL NO VAN ! Ahhh! , but with thanks to
Alan, Mark & Pete, for bike transportation, I
actually made it for my third race of the year.
Sketchy!, was a word I used an awful lot on
Sunday. Grip, what grip? I think I've got over
trying hang off the bike through corners, but when
I'm on tarmac I like to scrub off some speed going
into a corner with my front. You can't really do
that on a MX bike in sand. It's also not a clever
idea to use too much front brake going into a
sandy corner, as I found out when a rider stopped
in front of me in a corner; I banged the brakes on
and away went the front. Doh!
To be fair I was just trying to ride my own race.
Find my own pace through the sketchy sections,
take it easy over the jumps, keep to my lines and
have fun. By Race 3 the track had become even
more Sketchy, and I was on my first lap, riding
down through the woodland sandy section, and all
the way down the hill I seemed to catch bumps
(holes) in the wrong place, then bounce on to next
one wrong and so on. Towards the bottom I was
banging it down the gears, trying to get the
brakes on thinking that there's no way I was going
to set my self up and get it round the right
hander. I still gave it a go, the only problem was
the bike went round the corner, but I went
straight on over the handle bars. I keep doing
that, and I must stop it. Thanks to Jade Rudey, for
tootling past me taking the mick' - and then I was
back on and stayed on for the rest of the race,
growing ever more confident with my riding, and
also my attempts at the step up and the second
tabletop.
The day certainly was an experience and I found I
learned a lot, but more importantly I really did
have fun. I'm really glad that I'm now able to
understand what Soul is experiencing out there,
and respect to everyone else out there. As a
parent of a little rider, I am also the living test
monkey to all other parents out there, that it ain't
as easy out there as you might think. So give your
kid a break, and pat them on the back - no matter
what position they come, and say Well Done! They
deserve it.
