SOUL : With only one lap given in practice, it was
just enough for him to realise he was going to
have his work cut out in some sections. But one
lap never seems to be really enough to get a feel
especially where the conditions are quite technical
for the kids. The start of each race was a similar
story, with the race to the first corner across a
long flat straight, leaving Soul behind in a trail of
dust, with the quicker bikes ahead. We're still
banging our heads against the wall about the
19mm carb problem. We desperately need that
extra bit of power, and we have the carb, and
In-Chains have even converted it to fit the HM
Baja's air intake pipe, but finding the correct part
to attach the thing to the engine is the big
headache.
Soul wasn't really helping himself out there, as he
seemed to spend more time sat down on his bike
than was necessary, costing him time and
traction. Admit ably it was really tough out there
for the small wheelers, but the key to attacking
some corners was to leave his throttle wide open
up the incline - into and then around to drive out
of the corner. The sandy muddy corner with the
incline had the ability to slow the bike right down
and if he shut the throttle off even for a nano
second at any point of the entry or exit even, it
would make the bike stop and at worst chuck him
off his bike. He did that a few too many times!,
but it was just a case of trying to get him to shut
his brain off for a minute, and keep the throttle
pinned. He did finally see the light but not until the
third race, but by then the track was pretty ruffed
up, so it was every man for him self. Fair play
though, its all good experience.
